Training Together - Being equal, not being the same

We know that it can be very powerful when people with learning disabilities take part in staff training. However, working with co-trainers does not always feel like working as equals. Some experienced trainers find it hard to adapt and want co-trainers to just follow their lead. It's not easy for people with learning disabilities to feel confident that they can have good or different ideas about doing training.

This event is based on the lessons we learnt in the Training Partnership project. It will look at how to develop the skills to work and train together as equals. The ideas will be useful for working together in many different ways, not just for training.

Who for

This event is open to anyone, particularly useful to people coming as pairs who want to work together.

Person centred coaching and mentoring for staff

As work within the fields of health and social care becomes increasingly complex, staff need to be effectively prepared and supported to meet the challenges of their roles. Coaching is one of the most effective methods available to managers to develop staff. Good coaching leads to self-motivation and attitude of creating solutions and continual improvement, rather than problems and avoidance.
