Safeguarding Adults: Getting it right

NEW EVENT

Safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse and exploitation is one of the key responsibilities of care and support staff. As services become increasingly focused on promoting independence, it is important that staff are clear about their role in enabling choice, whilst also meeting their responsibilities within Safeguarding Adult procedures. The event focuses on some key questions:-

- Why does abuse and neglect occur?
- What might constitute abuse?
- What should staff do if they become aware of alleged abuse and neglect?

Who for

Direct care and support staff working with people with learning disabilities (though the course will also be of benefit to staff working with other groups of people).

My Life - monitoring Quality of Life Outcomes

Quality is high on everyone's agenda but it can sometimes feel as if you are trying to hit a moving target. With the regulatory authorities now focusing more on self-audit and measuring outcomes for people who use services, how do we use this information to plan and develop support? This day will be an opportunity to discuss some of these challenges, consider the meaning of outcomes and learn about ways of involving people in reviewing and shaping the quality of services they use.

Who for

Anyone working with people with dementia or with an increased likelihood of developing dementia. Managers responsible for developing services for people with dementia.

Discount

Service providers, commissioners and partnership board members. Anyone who provides, plans, commissions or reviews services and those who would like to play a greater role in reviewing the services they use.

Activities for communication for people with profound learning disabilities

Often supporters find it hard to understand communication that does not involve speech or to know where to start to engage individuals with PMLD in activities and events. Particularly, when these individuals have difficulties, not only in understanding but also seeing, hearing and moving about. By the end of the day participants should be able to:

- Communicate more effectively with individuals with PMLD
- Use a range of activities as contexts for communicating, eg stories, social activities, sensory experiences, art and music
- Have fun with the individuals they work with

Making information accessible

This event is all about providing practical ideas and examples about how to make information accessible for people with learning disabilities. You will also get an information pack with guidelines, ideas and examples to take away. The content of the day itself is accessible and so the course is suitable for many people with learning disabilities to attend.

Who for

Anyone who wants to make information easier for people with learning disabilities and communication difficulties.
