Advocacy one day events discuss the role of the self-advocacy supporter or how different forms of advocacy can empower and support people. These sessions are an excellent forum for sharing ideas and experiences and the advocacy follow up days are facilitated events where participants can discuss particular issues in more detail.
BILD is working in partnership with autism.west midlands to provide some high quality training for people working with those who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The four different days of training will develop a good knowledge base for anyone attending but they can also be valuable if done as a one day event.
Events range from introductory courses in understanding challenging behaviour, its nature, cause and effect to courses for advanced practitioners which focus on policy development, functional analysis, risk assessment and management, and the use of physical interventions. The aim of all events are to assist parents/carers, direct care staff, managers and volunteers to better understand and respond to challenging behaviour when it occurs within an ethical and legal framework, based on current best practice.
These courses aim to help managers, supervisors and those with a responsibility for the development of staff to develop the skills needed to provide effective supervision, coaching, training and assessment. This will help organisations to become more independent and cost-effective.
The BILD Physical Interventions Accreditation Scheme has at its heart the BILD Code of Practice in Physical Interventions and the joint DoH/DfES document Guidance for restrictive physical interventions which recommends that training should normally be provided by trainers who are accredited under the BILD Code of Practice and express a formal interest in progressing to accreditation.
