Choosing staff to support you

NEW EVENT

This one day event will give you the chance to understand how to choose staff who will give you the support you need, when you need it and in the way you want it.

It will help you to think about how to treat people fairly and stick to the rules about employing people. It will give you and a supporter the chance to learn more and think about how you want to be involved in choosing your staff.

We will do different activities to help us think about:

- Choosing staff
- Treating everyone fairly
- Different ways of getting involved
- The support you might need to do this

You will take away a folder to help you remember what we talked about.

Who for

This day is for people with a learning disability and their supporters.

Supporting people to get involved in recruitment

NEW EVENT

More and more people with a learning disability are being involved in choosing the staff who support them and this is particularly important with the increase in direct payments and individual budgets. However, people are often only included in the interview but true involvement means understanding and contributing to all of the different stages of recruitment. This event will offer tools and activities to explain the legal and practical aspects of recruitment, identifying ways for people to be included, and how to make the process more accessible whilst not compromising the legal requirements of the recruitment process.

Who for

Anyone who wants to support people with a learning disability to be involved in choosing their staff.

Discount

We can offer a discounted rate for a person with a learning disability or ASD; family carer or enabler; unwaged; small voluntary organisation (ie. an organisation working in the learning disability field with no more than five paid members of staff).
