Autism awareness a basic understanding

An introductory event aimed at anyone wishing to develop awareness and understanding of people
who have an autistic spectrum disorder.

Anyone who works with or supports children and adults with an autistic spectrum disorder.

Personalised learning using supportive strategies in and out of the classroom PLLuSS

This event addresses the needs of the child with complex autism and inability to learn and stay in the classroom. The day includes a wide range of ideas to stimulate and include such children, based on an analysis of learning needs, preference of location, activity, behaviour supports and how to provide inclusive individualised learning.

It will also demonstrate the success of the programme with the results of a radical project at Loddon School.

This event will enable participants to gain insight into the complexities of communication for individuals with autism, and identify practical strategies in adjusting our language and the way in which we communicate.

Autism and sensory issues

This event looks specifically at the sensory issues that can affect individuals with an autistic spectrum disorder. It covers hyper and hypo sensitivity and encourages staff to focus interventions and environments from a sensory perspective. By the end of the day, delegates will have gained more insight into the autistic person's life and will have a greater awareness of everyday events that can become stressful and aversive.

Anyone who works with people with autistic spectrum disorders, either in an autism specific service or where people with autism live with other individuals who may not have sensory difficulties.

Social stories for children and adults with autistic spectrum disorders

The day is an introduction to social stories. It will provide participants with an understanding of children and adults with an autistic spectrum disorder and how using a social story approach can be effective in developing learning. It also exp0lores the development of play skills and provides a useful development profile of how skills can be nurtured from an early age.

Mental health issues and autistic spectrum disorder

This event will give an overview of the nature of the core difficulties associated with ASD in communication, social interaction, inflexible thinking and behaviour and sensory difficulties and differences. It will also explore a range of mental health issues that may affect individuals with ASD and identify the underpinning reasons that cause them. Participants will consider ways of helping people with ASD understand themselves better, develop coping strategies for dealing with both mental health issues and the underlying autism related causes.

FREE EVENT FOR MEMBERS: Mental health issues and autistic spectrum disorder

Free event for members

Free places are limited to one per individual or organisation member although organisations may pay for extra places.
